Danae Polyviou is a structural engineer with over a decade of experience on complex geometry structures of a wide variety of materiality and scale. She was an Associate Team Leader at the P.Art Engineering team of AKTII. Prior to that she worked in Stuttgart and Berlin. Danae completed her undergrad studies at the University of Bath followed by a master on Membrane Structures in Germany. She is currently teaching at the AA, in the undergrad school and at the AADRL postgrad program and at the Bartlett along her work as a structural engineer. Her personal interest lies within the notion of lightweight structures, geometry optimization, utilizing each material's inherent properties and digital fabrication techniques. Danae has also tutored at the RCA, Westmister, Cardiff and IAAC Barcelona and has led and participated in workshops such as Shape to Fabrication, AAG, Smart Geometry. Danae has been shortlisted in 2022 by WICEAwards in the category Best Woman Structural Engineer.
This course will conduct an investigation of a range of materials used in contemporary structures including concrete, timber, brick and blocks, glass, fabrics and composites.
